A bed, a chair, a table

More work on Miss Lillian's Feline Cottage today.

I have installed and painted the roof.

I think it looks pretty good.

Here's the bed from yesterday, painted and dressed.
And another view of it:

This came out quite well, I think.

And, I made a slipper chair:

Scrap wood, foam, and fabric.

Then, I added a table:

And I put them all inside the house.

Sadly, I apparently got spatters of paint on the floors of the tiny house while painting the roof. :(
Not sure how I'm going to fix that.

Took a trip to AC Moore with my friend Susan, and bought lavender and rose paint, two fat quarters of fabric, and a skein of rather odd yarn to make a ruffly scarf.

1/4 scale Christmas house

I'm having some problems uploading to my Greenleaf forum gallery.

The new software (Photoshop) is something I'm still getting used to, as is Windows 8. While I was not blogging, I created a Christmas house in quarter scale for our annual Christmas swap. It was the package chosen by my sister-in-law Bina. I'm very pleased about that, because I think she and my brother Andrew are both very appreciative of hand-crafted things.

Unfortunately, I think I forgot to take a pic of the final, finished house.

I used an old doily for the curtains. The fireplace I made from paperclay, painted it, and added the "stockings". I decorated a tiny Christmas tree. I changed the chair cushions and the bedding to Christmas print fabric.

I made the red slipper chair in the bedroom, and the tiny bottles on the dresser. Also, the tiny lamp in the bedroom. The bathroom towels and mat are painted pieces of paper towel.

I printed tiny Christmas pictures, framed them in gold card stock, and pasted them on the walls,

I had painted the brown plastic ice box white, and also the sink. The pump was red, and I painted that silver.

I ended up putting a wall between the bathroom and the bedroom.

The finished house was on foam board, covered with a textured paint walk, batting snow, 3 tiny snow-covered trees, a little snowman, bows on the porch garlands, and a tiny wreath on the wall. Oh yeah, Santa was on the porch roof,

I made a tiny poinsettia from an SDK kit, and that was on the kitchen table.

It was really a fun little project, and I will definitely work more in quarter scale.

Making a bed

The roof is on, and the trim is attached.

I used ModPodge on the floors, and painted the upstairs ceiling yellow (after spackling the tab/slots and sanding it down).

The bed frame is glued together.

I used lightweight wood, and the legs are made of toothpicks. The bed is sitting on the box from a 1/2 scale window. I'll try to start putting a size reference item in my photos.

I've been envisioning the furnishings of this house to be fairly whimsical - I probably won't use much of the plastic furniture sets. The bed frame will be painted sort of an aqua, and I hope to have it finished tomorrow. I'll use foam for the mattress, and I have some fabric and lace to use as well.

Miss Lillian's Feline Cottage

My new and fanciful project - a 1/4 scale house, built for Miss Lillian.

Miss Lillian.

Miss Lillian comes from PamelaJunksMinis on Etsy. She is designed to be either full-sized at 1:48, or doll-sized at 1:12.

The house is painted vanilla, with blue denim trim. The door is a spring green with yellow panels.

The interior of the house is two rooms. Downstairs is a kitchen/living room. Upstairs is the bedroom, with either workspace or bathroom. I haven't decided which yet. Although I left the downstairs ceiling unpainted and unpapered, I will be painting the upstairs ceiling after it's assembled and spackled.

I used split coffee stirrers to make the inside window and door trim. The flooring and wallpaper are scrapbook papers.

The roof will be painted denim blue, with green and yellow trim.

November Mini Projects

Current houses:

1/4 scale Christmas house - this will be my holiday swap gift. Tonight I added icicles made from glue. (Not shown in picture.)

More has been added, both inside and out. New pictures soon.

Haunted Fairfield: This is in the very early stages.

I've had to do some modifications. I'm going to use the Houseworks stairs, on the ground floor. They are wider than the Greenfield kit stairs, so I've moved the side wall over in the foyer.

Tonight, I finished polyurethaning the coffee stirrer floors in the living room, dining room, and kitchen (these floors are not yet installed). I stained the Houseworks stairs, railing, balusters, and spindles. I'll wait to polyeurathane the stairs after it is assembled completely.

I glued some of the wallpaper to the applicable walls.

I am very much liking the half scale, and will try to post pictures tomorrow.

Camper progress

I have been working on the camper. It's coming along quite nicely.

I've wired, wall-papered, floored, and painted. I have a plan to make a grill - using a toilet paper roll, paperclay charcoal, and some skewers.

Furniture is placed temporarily. I will need to make a refrigerator, and stove. The window trim is not yet installed, nor the light covers. Or the door. The wheel well covers also need to be glued in.

I got the sink unit on Ebay. I painted it light chocolate. It needs a bit of white enamel touch-up.

Once the wall partitions are in, this lefthand section will be the bathroom. I don't think I'll have room to put in a shower. I have a ceramic toilet I'll make a seat cover for, and add a floor pedal. Haven't figured out the sink yet. The toiletries and towels will sit on the shelf there. The door will be in the middle, with the toilet and sink on each end.
This right-hand side will be the bedroom. I'll put in a fairly simple bed and a bureau/cupboard. This door too will probably be in the middle, to avoid the wheelwell covers. I may just do curtains for the doorways.

The view from  the bedroom end.

Here's the front so far. On the right you can see the whaddaycallit, tow-bar  thing. It's painted black.
The door is going to be a challenge. I am going to try to make a pin-hinged door. I'll need to make a door frame, and I need to figure out how to drill the tiny holes I'll need.

Before Friday, I'll have the door, frame, and wheels done (I hope).

Chim chim cherie!

I finished the chimney on the Whitney/Primrose.

I glued the bricks onto the frame, trying to alternate them to look like a real chimney.

Once they were all glued, I used tile grout between the bricks.

Not bad for my first try at brick-laying.

Balcony railing.

Bay window, shingled.

Front view,with shingles painted.
